The Indonesian National Standard (SNI) is a set of standards applicable nationwide in Indonesia, formulated with the goal of ensuring safety, security, environmental preservation, trade facilitation, and fostering fair competition in commerce. It is established in accordance with Government Regulation No. 102 of 2000 on National Standardization.

Objectives of SNI

SNI is developed by technical committees and formalized by the National Standardization Agency (BSN), a non-ministerial government agency directly accountable to the President. BSN oversees the implementation of policies related to standardization and conformity assessment.
Key objectives of SNI include:
- Establishing uniform terms and definitions for food products.
- Standardizing product naming and classification.
- Providing guidelines for terminology to support standardization and certification of food production.
While SNI is voluntary, it can become mandatory in matters of public safety, health, environmental preservation, or economic considerations.
Mandatory SNI for Processed Foods

Certain processed food products in Indonesia are subject to mandatory SNI compliance to ensure safety and quality. These include:
- Natural Mineral Water (SNI 6242:2015)
